We are extremely pleased to announce the opening of our latest medical centre development St Martins House by the Lord Mayor of Leeds Councillor Jane Dowson.
The project started with GP surgery St Martins Practice who were in desperate need of a new centre after outgrowing their old premises. The surgery were forced to use Portakabins having tried to find a solution to their premises issue for nearly 10 years. Due to Chapeltown being a built up inner city area one of the main issues was finding a plot of land large enough to support a new facility.
MGI provided a solution by purchasing and sympathetically extending the historic building St Martins House. MGI has carried out a £3m redevelopment to build a new medical centre that is now home to the GP surgery, a pharmacy and an eye clinic. The new, larger clinic will help it to support its expanding patient list, provide further service and help them continue providing high quality health care.
Opthamology chain Newmedica part of Specsavers group have also opened a new clinic in the premises. Newmedica provide NHS funded and private services for treating eye diseases and disorders.
Furthermore, a Medichem Pharmacy has opened at the centre providing prescription and non-prescription drugs and ailments. The pharmacy chain was founded in Chapeltown 35 years ago by the Father of Rohin Dhand, Chief Executive at Mayfair Group Investment.
Rohin said: ‘The local community has been desperate for a revamp in its healthcare provision for many years and St Martins House will help to deliver this, with state-of-the-art facilities, and expert ophthalmology services.
We developed the centre due to a lack of modern healthcare accommodating for expanding surgeries like St Martins Practice, and it also provided an excellent opportunity for Newmedica and Medichem to expand their services.
My family also shares a close affinity with this project. My dad launched Medichem nearby, and I used to work in the pharmacy part-time when I was at school. My grandma still works in this original pharmacy! I am extremely proud to be growing the family’s connection to Chapeltown with this new development.
It has long pained me to see the community not get the high quality health care it deserves and is available in other areas. We remain committed to build property that enables innovative surgeries like St Martins Practice to provide quality health care for all patients. ”
